Here is a fun little hike you may enjoy. It is the Hawaii Loa Ridge Trail .

See that ridge on the far left WWAAYYYYY back there? That is where I will be going to.
Yes, it is true, it does take a while to get there, but the actual journey is the fun part.

Right from the trailhead, you get a neat and different perspective of
Hawaii's famous landmark, Diamond Head Crater.
I would love to go hike Diamond Head one day, but they say no dog's allowed.
How mean of them.

After a short grassy area, you go through a kinda spooky tree section.
The trees blowing in the wind make strange creaking sounds, it is vewy weird, fo' sure.
Maybe I should leave a trail of bread crumbs, in case I get lost here. Shootz, I cannot, I ate dem already.

WHAT DA HECK?!?? Boomiez, is dat YOU?
I hear alot of snortin' an see sumthin' that look jus like Boomiez comin' through da trees.

Well, dat sure was a strange guy! Mommy say it called a Wild Pig, but I neva have time to get my camera out
cuz frankly, I was a little scared when I found out it was not Boomiez.
I did find a picture of what he looked like tho.
He actually turned out to be a pretty friendly little guy and said "Aloha" and den was on his way.

Look at all dis beautiful lush green vegetation. Almost makes you forget you are on da most populated Island in Hawaii!

This is a Bird Nest Fern growing way up high in a tree. Jus like a REAL BIRD NEST!

Dis is a beautiful tree called Ohia Lehua. You find many of these on da way up da trail.

And wild orchids that you would think someone hand planted up there. AMAZING, ya?

Hmmmm..... Looking at dis topo map, I say da worst is yet to come.

Yep, here we go. Da last mile of da hike is BRUTAL. (I like dat word, brutal, hee hee).
They were nice enough to build makeshift stairs, to mainly help with erosion, but without them,
I doubt there is any way you would get to da top. Even a SuperYorkie like me has a workout ahead of him.

OK, I been climbing stairs da past 20 minutes, don't tell me there is MORE??? Oh no!

(HINT: Here is a good place to pretend like you gotta stop an take in da amazing view.
Sure, you are really trying to get your lungs to keep from popping out of your chest, but no one has to know that.)
In fact, I think I have to take in the scenery quite a few times on da way up to da top!

They jus keep goin and goin and goin... up...up...up... I won't have to go to da gym for a year!

WOW! I guess all dat stair climbing was worth it. Dis is an amazing view of da South side of da Koolaus.
I would almost think I was on Fatu Hiva, not Honolulu.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT! I made it to da top! I wonder if any other Yorkie ever made it up here before?

Check out dis AWESOME view of Mt. Olomana, Kailua, and Kaneohe behind me.
Yeah, it was a bit hazy today, but at least da clouds didn't roll in and totally block out da view.

PAWSOME!!

Behind me here, you can see Waimanalo and da Mokulua Islands of Lanikai. You can visit both of these places on my other BITE SITE Locations.
(I do get around, don't I)

What a totally amazing view! Jus don't get too close to da edge here, it's a LOOONNNGGGGGG way STRAIGHT DOWN!!

Guess I gotta take da stairs back down, I forgot to bring my parachute, dang.

Jus one more quick peek at da unreal natural beauty up here.
These Koolau Mountains simply take my breath away. (Or maybe dat was da stairs)

And da long trek back down continues......

Thank goodness I am finished with that stair section, my legs feel like rubbery noodles now.

Look at all these wild growing ti leaf and fern. It is so wonderful here.
I can see why Mr. Wild Pig was so friendly, he must love his surroundings, they must make him very happy.
They makin' me very happy, I don't wanna go back down.

There are a few sections where you gotta climb over a bunch of tree roots.
It's not too bad if it is dry, but if you get a little rain shower during your hike, you better watch out,
da mud is as slick as ice, an you most likely will fall on your okole
an slide all da way down!

HEY MOM! Wait up! They put a rope to help you out, but they forget, Yorkies don't have thumbs. I can't use dis!

EEEUUUWWWW..... Headin' back to civilization.
And here we have wonderful Waikiki (or as my Grampaw calls it "WakiWaki").

Here is a view of Maunalua Bay, and hey, if you look way in da back, you can see Koko Head. That is da mountain I jus hiked last weekend.
You can see that hike on my BiteSite, as well. (That was a PERFECT DAY!)

WOW, I'm almost back down. And I look up where I jus came from........

See dat little peak right in da middle of da pic? That's where I went. Yeah, really. No foolin.

I had Daddy do a zoom-in shot jus so you can see fo' yourself. See that red trail??? That is da top section of da hike up to da tippy top.
AMAZING!

What a long and tiring day. I sure am looking forward to a huge bacon double cheeseburger and an ice cold root beer!
YUM! YUM!

Thank you fo' joining me on my Hawaii Loa Ridge Hike!!
